Please join us in a march on the evening of September 21st, 2018. We will gather for poster making at 7pm at Saint Joseph’s Community Health Center. As a group we will march starting at 7:30 through the South End with banners, chants and instruments to declare our presence in the streets of Saint John. The march will rally at the foot of King Street, Loyalist Plaza (the stone circle), where we will make some more noise and share stories.
We ask that allies meet us at the final stop, Loyalist Plaza to welcome and support us as we gather at the end of the march.
Bring your voices and your strength. We can’t wait to Take Back the Night!!
More on the March:
Take Back the Night is a globally recognized annual march intended to draw attention to the issue of sexualized violence towards women, woman identifying and trans individuals.
We are a group of community partners; comprised of women and women identifying individuals who seek to reclaim the streets from the fear many of us feel walking home at night due to harassment, potential abuse, unwanted attention, catcalling or any other action which may jeopardize our safety.
Collectively we believe that a feminist perspective creates space to express our anger towards the issue of sexual violence as a problem that many of us face. We stand in solidarity with those who fear walking alone, going out after dark, encountering strangers or walking in unsafe areas of town. We march for women, women identifying and trans individuals to feel safe in the streets. We seek to partner with allies (non-women identifying individuals and children) to take back spaces from which we have long been excluded due to fear of harassment, abuse or unwanted attention.
