In 2017, more than one million people marched in over 600 locations around the world (including Lethbridge) to support and defend science for the common good. In 2018, we unite once more to advocate for science's crucial role in society and policy. We call on our representatives to support equitable evidence-based policies that serve all people.
The Lethbridge event has three connected components:
- a) We will hold the March (really a gathering) at the northeast Corner of University Drive and Columbia/Valley from 1pm-2pm, on the shared usage path. Park at the University following their parking rules.
Bring a sign or shirt or hat or lab coat (Really whatever represents science to you). Drums and instruments welcomed as well!
Please dress appropriately as this is happening come rain, snow, wind, sun, etc. Everyone is welcome.
- b) A science poster walk will be held on campus from 2 - 3:30 pm (Pronghorn Square - gathering area on level 2 of PE building). No specific theme to the poster contributions. We were particularly interested in presenting a combination of conference posters from students and retired faculty members here, as an acknowledgement of both the continuity and progression of science. If you would like to drop off a poster before the event, that can be arranged (please also make note if it is safe and appropriate to recycle that poster after the event, rather than saving it). There is limited space for posters, so first come - first served.
- c) Lastly, a mix and mingle at Theoretically Brewing Company from 4 - 8pm (PS they are raising funds to create an outdoor patio for local gatherings to occur). Dogs/other animals on leash welcome to the march and at Theoretically Brewing (not for the poster event, unfortunately).
