Abortion 101 for Trolls

The following may or may not make sense as a beautifully written essay but I've thrown these paragraphs here for easy access for the arguments that individuals, let's call them trolls, who try to engage us with online. I'm sort of getting tired of trying to educate and reply to their "yeah but..." methods of argument. Am sort of wishing I had kept my textbook from my Logic 101 philosophy course in university. So if you see a pro-life troll on the internet, please just direct them to this post.

Yeah but...she should have kept her legs closed

Why are you focusing only on one half of the equation? Stop all irresponsible ejaculations and you stop the need for abortions.

Women are not incubators. If you don't like abortions then don't have one. If I needed a kidney (to save my life), I could not force you to give me one. Giving it would be your choice. If you are pro-life you'd allow me to take a kidney from you to save my life but you have a choice as to what happens to your body.

Yeah but...birth control

Birth control isn't 100% effective. Abortions have always happened and always will happen. Safe abortions are the goal.

Sometimes those steps to prevent pregnancies don't work and an abortion is needed. No one wants to have to have an abortion but there are times when a woman wants or needs an abortion. Women (and men) have the right to govern what happens to their bodies. Just as no one can force you to give up a kidney (what you do with your body is your right), no one should be able to force a woman to remain pregnant and give birth (what a woman does with her body is her right).

Whenever and wherever abortion becomes illegal or not widely available, it is poor women who are deprived of their rights. Those who can pay can and do find access.

Yeah but...um, what's bodily autonomy?

Bodily autonomy is defined as the right to self-governance over one’s own body without external influence or coercion. It is generally considered to be a fundamental human right.

Wouldn’t it be nice if people minded their own business when it comes to bodily autonomy? We disagree with your definition of life and emphasize instead the sanctity of the health and the free will of people. We believe abortion is ethical and it is not the government or anyone else’s business.

Yeah but...life!

If you are anti-choice then you cannot be pro-life. When abortions are not available women die. If you are concerned about unwanted pregnancies, focus on stopping irresponsible ejaculations. If you are concerned about unwanted children, adopt, fight for better child care, child support, pay equity. There's so much you can do rather than focusing on regulating women's bodies.

Care more, or at least as equally, about women's lives and the lives of children who are born. If you don't focus on that then all you are concerned about is regulating the bodies of half the population. You can't dictate what a woman chooses to do with her body. If you don't like abortions, don't have one.

Yeah...but I'm a very conservative Texan

Well, thank you for visiting the Women's March Canada website, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook page. Oh, and abortion in Canada is legal at all stages of pregnancy and is governed by the Canada Health Act. While some non-legal obstacles exist, Canada is one of only a few nations with no legal restrictions on abortion.

Women's March Canada believes in reproductive freedom. We do not accept any cuts or restrictions on our ability to access quality reproductive health care services, birth control, HIV/AIDS care and prevention, or medically accurate sexuality education. This means open access to safe, legal, affordable abortion and birth control for all people, regardless of income, location, or education.

Have I said this already?

Bodily autonomy is defined as the right to self-governance over one’s own body without external influence or coercion. It is generally considered to be a fundamental human right.

If you don't want to have an abortion, then it's your choice. Don't have one.
