This year, we will be focusing our efforts on Truth and Reconciliation as we recognize the staggering number of Indigenous women and girls disproportionately affected, victimized, missing, or murdered as a result of violence. Indigenous women in Canada are three times more likely to have acts of sexual and intimate partner violence committed against them than non-Indigenous women. These are realities that require our immediate attention in order to shift the current trajectory and build a safe community for women and people of all genders to live, work, and play.
Regina is on Treaty 4 territory, traditional homeland of the Cree, Dene, Lakota, Nakota, Dakota, Salteaux, and the Métis Nation. We give thanks to these groups for being stewards of this land for generations and we acknowledge this land as providing for other Indigenous groups and peoples who moved through here as well. We are humbled by the opportunity to live, grow, play, and work here, and we affirm our commitment to recognizing the historical and ongoing harms and to honouring the spirit of peace and friendship.WHENJanuary 19, 2019 at 10amWHEREYWCA Regina
