We are not ready to put away their protest signs just yet...are you?

On January 21, 2017, tens of thousands of Canadians took to the streets from coast to coast, and in Washington, D.C., joining together to defend women’s equality and other causes. We know there are events across the country that women and allies need to know about. Our mission is to inspire, unite and lead the charge for the advancement of women across Canada. Any time women gather with a collective intention, it's a powerful thing. Let's see this happen across Canada!

We encourage women's groups from across Canada to list their upcoming events related to women's health, economic security, representation, and safety.

  • YW Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®

    • Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11:00 AM
    • YWCA Calgary in Calgary, AB, Canada

YW WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® Presented by Shoppers Drug Mart is an annual fundraising event that asks women and men to STEP UP and take a stand to help break the cycle of family violence in our city. Although family violence is a very serious matter, this fun and light-hearted event asks participants to challenge each other to participate and help women and their children walk away from family violence.

Domestic abuse has steadily been rising in Calgary with the last few years showing 34% more incidents than the 5-year average. In fact, police responded to 3,089 domestic violence calls in the first three quarters of 2017.

On Tuesday, September 18, hundreds of Calgarians will put on a pair of high heels and strut down Stephen Avenue to support women and their families. Individuals register online and commit to fundraising $1,000 each so we can reach the fundraising goal of $250,000.

Through emergency shelter, housing, counselling, outreach and family access services, YW Calgary strives to enable women and children to live free of violence. We provide them with a safe and secure place to stay, case management, referrals and support while taking steps to cope with the trauma and crisis in their lives. We also help men in our adult programs, promoting long-term solutions to the issues.

To do this we need your help, challenge yourself or someone else today to fundraise and change the lives of hundreds of women and children trapped in domestic abuse.

  • Ban All Anti Abortion Displays In Canada

#IWasCutToo, a Human Rights Group, is calling on Canadian governments to make it illegal to display anti-abortion advertising.
Calgary passed a bylaw banning anti-abortion flyers/displays under public nuisance bylaws, and it is asked that the same be done across Canada to ban flyers, posters, billboards, websites and any other of visual which goes against human rights.

Everyone in Canada has the right to their own opinion, but it is unethical to visually display opinions which are to the contrary of any human rights. The right to abortion is legal in Canada, and it is asked all anti-abortion advertising be made illegal in Canada.
Family planning clinics continue to be protested in Canada which is an unethical right to assemble. And despite the 150-meter distance laws in Ontario, groups continue to organize against human rights.

Supporters are asked to contact their government officials and complain against this human rights violation.
Currently surrounding Stratford Ontario, Ani-Abortion themed billboards exist; these billboards are being challenged in a political rally on September 29, 2018, downtown Stratford.
