Women in Canada are angry

As an organizer of the Women's March in Ottawa in 2016, I am a nurse, a mom, an activist and revolutionary at heart. Women and men marched in Ottawa, and around the world, to raise awareness for human rights and that we have to be proactive in our own country. The US election showed that a country can always be one election away from a drastic shift.

Women and those who support women's rights are DONE. We are DONE with the systemic misogyny and sexism that have allowed for the harassment of women to go unchallenged for decades. We are DONE with the violence that still takes the lives of hundreds of women in this country every year - that has taken the lives of thousands of our Indigenous sisters. We are DONE with making less than men, taking on more of the burden for childcare whilst simultaneously being disproportionately negatively impacted by poverty, climate change, violence. We are DONE with not having fair representation in our political system and structures, and with our unique perspectives being left out of decision making and policy. That frustration around the fact he won last year opened the door, but that conversation has evolved so much since then.

WE ARE DONE.

And we are marching to show the world that enough is enough. That time is up. Women in Canada are angry; and on January 20, 2018, women in Ottawa will be shouting and letting the world know we will no longer be silent. We will also be telling Canada that in our own country we will remain vigilant for any threat to our democratic human rights and that we stand in solidarity with women, men and non-binary people here and abroad.

Please donate to Women's March Canada today.

Restore all provincial funding to Ontario College of Midwives

    Another cut affecting primarily women.

"Doug Ford's government has revoked current and future funding for the College of Midwives of Ontario, the regulatory body that oversees more than 900 midwives and has had government support for 25 years."

In September 2018, the Ford government was told by the Tribunal to negotiate with midwives to end the pay equity gap. To date, the Ford Tories have refused to negotiate.

The statement said the changes will have no impact on the public. "We cannot cut our services and programs, as the College's work is mandated by our governing legislation," it said.

"It is likely that midwives will have to pay more to the College on an annual basis," the College added. "This is not news we wanted to share."

    Whereas the College of Midwives is responsible for licensing and regulating the profession of midwifery; and the province of Ontario is responsible for funding medical care;

We the undersigned, as constituents and residents of Ontario, demand Ontario restore funding to the Ontario College of Midwives immediately.

Removing funding places the burden of financing the college on approximately 900 members whose fees are capped by the province.

First, we marched. Now, we move forward.

On January 21, 2017 thousands of Canadians, many of us waving signs and wearing pointy-eared pink hats, gathered in cities and towns across the country to show solidarity with the massive Women’s March in Washington.

Women, and their allies, in Canada, came to march, speak and make our voices heard. But it doesn’t end here - now is not the time to hang up our marching shoes - it’s time to get our friends, family, and community together and make history.

Today, our mission is to inspire, unite and lead the charge for the advancement of women across Canada. Our vision is to make equality of women in Canada the new norm.

All dollars raised will support Women's March Canada efforts moving forward. At this time, Women's March Canada, while registered as a not for profit organization, is not a registered charity and we are unable to issue official donation receipts for income tax purposes.

Our organization needs community support to keep going!

Help us have consistent, year-round funding, donate monthly.

    Please march forward with us.
