Women's March Canada - Muskoka

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Women's March Canada - Muskoka would like to acknowledge that Muskoka is on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek (ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᒃ), Huron-Wendat, Odawa and Mississauga/Eastern Anishinaabe (Ojibwa) peoples. We keep this acknowledgement at the forefront of our march and thank the Anishinabek (ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᒃ), Huron-Wendat, Odawa and Mississauga/Eastern Anishinaabe (Ojibwa) peoples for allowing us to gather.

OUR CHAPTER

Women’s March Muskoka is a grassroots initiative aiming to create community and raise awareness to the issues and challenges facing women in our community whilst supporting the International Women’s March Global movement.

Inspired by “Women’s March on Washington”, “Women’s March Global”, a single post by Jan Jacklin, and the action that occurred in Muskoka last year led by Kathleen May, this year's event is aimed at bringing together our community in solidarity. Everyone is welcome at Women's March Muskoka; all ages, and all identities. This is a fully inclusive, women-led, initiative. Why? Because, we believe that the answer to addressing these issues relies on partnerships, collaboration, and community support. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and our children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families.

We hope that our Chapter will continue to inspire people to think about how they might participate in social change on a local, provincial, national, and global level.

Whilst, here in Canada, we have made great strides towards addressing women’s issues there is still so much work to do to bridge-the-gap. There remains a disproportionate level of poverty, abuse, discrimination, misogyny, inequality, and prejudice, toward women that is exacerbated with the intersect of physical ability, socio-economic status, gender identity & sexual orientation, immigrant status, race, and creed. No woman should be excluded from the rights and freedoms that are our fundamental human right.

We are not ready to put away their protest signs just yet...are you? There are a few ways you get involved in Women's March Canada Peel Region. You can volunteer, donate and recruit others to join us! As a grassroots organization, our chapter is your chapter.
