The Salt Spring contingent for the global Women's March occurring on Coast Salish unceded territory, is on Sunday, January 20th 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm. We meet outside the library steps once again.
Salt Spring walks mindfully in empowered, silent solidarity with our global Community. This is an INCLUSIVE walk, and EVERYONE who supports women's rights are welcome.
The purpose of this *non-violent*, *inclusive* and *intersectional* protest is to take a stand for and support women’s rights -- the rights of ALL women -- with women from all races, all religious communities, all political affiliations, cis or transgender and all sexual orientations. Violence, whether from or against the right-wing, left-wing, centre or independents, is not welcome and will not be condoned.
We'll meet at the library at 1 pm for speakers and music, walk thru Ganges and come back to the library for one last song and then some FUN.
We'll have placards or make & bring your own. Weather permitting please bring drums to remind us of our courageous and compassionate hearts.
**SPIRIT AND ETHOS OF LOCAL MARCHES**
This is an INCLUSIVE, INTERSECTIONAL march, and EVERYONE, around the world, who supports women's rights are welcome. We are committed to intersectional feminism and inclusion:
- Women & Girls & Femmes & GNC & GF
- Men & Boys
- People of Color
- LGBTQI+ Community
- Individuals with disabilities
- ALL religious communities
- Climate Change Advocates
- Anyone else who wants to come out in support!
Though this event was sparked by Trump’s election to the White House, it has taken a life of its own. It is a loving response to the hate-inciting, divisive, discriminatory attitudes, messages and actions that have been perpetuated for too long. To date, there is no country in the world that has yet achieved gender equality, but that does not mean we should give up striving towards it. We are, in fact, closing the gap.
No longer tolerating any discrimination or victimization of women or any violation of women's rights, whether through words, actions or policies, the #Metoo movement has opened things wide up for discussion and reflection.
Our hard-won rights will not be stopped in our pursuit of intersectional, substantive equality!
"Equal enough" is NOT enough!
We hope to see our brothers, fathers, sons, husbands and other male allies marching with us -- women’s rights are human rights!
PLEASE spread the word everywhere!
