Women's March Canada - Nanaimo would like to acknowledge that Nanaimo is on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw people. We keep this acknowledgment at the forefront of our events and thank the Snuneymuxw people for allowing us to gather.
The Nanaimo Women's Action Committee in partnership with VIU Faculty Association Status of Women and VIU Student Union Women's Collective is organizing the annual Women's March!
We believe that Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women’s Rights. We must create a society in which women - including Black women, Indigenous women, poor women, immigrant women, disabled women, Muslim women, lesbian queer and trans women - are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from structural impediments.
The walk will start at Diana Krall Plaza at 10 am, progressing south on Commercial Street and then north along the sidewalk on Terminal Ave until we arrive at Maffeo-Sutton Park. Speakers and music will begin at Maffeo-Sutton around 11 am.
